Instant Volcano Eruption!

Today a Volcano Erupted in our Hub! Not a real Volcano, a Science Experiment Volcano.

Hub 1 had our Writing Provocation today where we made a Volcano.

We made our Volcano out of:
Baking Soda, Vinegar, Paper Cups, Plates, Red Food Colouring and a bowl.

When we put the Vinegar on top of the Baking Soda it erupted. The liquid in the jar rose up and flowed down like a red waterfall from the top of the jar. It was very strong, and nearly pushed the cup off the jar.

We then went away and had time to write down our thoughts and feelings about the experiment.

Here are some photos of our fun and exciting experience:

Working with Hub 9...

We were so lucky to have Hub 9 come and work with us to complete the school Survey.

There was a lot of discussing and collaborating with one other to answer questions about our learning at Stonefields School.

Here are some photos of the afternoon:

Some of the children created creating some styley jewellery to sell at the fair - it looks stunning!

The face painting group started to paint their designs on themselves also - Don't they look beautiful and bright!

What a wonderful day with a fantastic group of children :)

Clay Making in Hub 1!

ART
Clay Making

Today, Wednesday the 13th of August, Hub 1 created some amazing sculptures out of clay. We had to use all of the learner qualities to work to create a sculpture out of clay.

We started the day by thinking of what we could make out of clay, a object we liked. Next we sketched a design in our Big Books. From this we then could start making our designs out of clay. It took a little bit of time to learn how to manipulate and mould the clay to get it into the shape we wanted. We had to be determined to to make sure all our small details were attached probably.

Our next steps are to decorate and paint our final clay sculpture.

Here are some photos of our sculptures...

Our Writing Provocation for Week 4!

...Here is our Writing Provocation for Week 4...

Hub 1 did a 'Fireworks' experiment today in the morning block. We mixed water, oil and food colouring to create an awesome fireworks pattern.
We are using this experiment (our writing provocation) to write about our thoughts and ideas in Free Writing and within our Writing Workshops for the week.

Here is a link to the experiment if you would like to have a go yourself:

The Human Body!

Hilary, Brittany in Hub 1's Sister, came into Hub 1 today to share with us her knowledge about the Human Body.

She shared a powerpoint presentation with us and her amazing knowledge of the Human body. We learnt about how the brain works, how the bones move and all about the functioning of certain organs.

The children had a great time and were even challenged with different quiz's asking questions to check their understanding.

Breakthrough Friday!

...Mrs England's Breakthrough Groups...

...Here are some of our wonderful learners completing their breakthrough for Friday...

The face painting group researched some designs for Face Painting.  They came up with some designs to start sketching and practising for the Fair.

The Art group came up with some new ideas to create art for the Fair. They even started making their own designs using colouring in pencils, whiteboards and markers.

The scavenger Hunt group came up with some places within the school to hide their clues.

The Jewellery group brought in some materials to use to create their Jewellery. They also researched some designs of earrings and made a decision about what types of earrings they will make.

Kenji and Keiko Japanese experience in Hub 7

Kenji and Keiko Japanese experience in Hub 7

Mrs England's Guardian Group were very lucky today to go and learn Japanese from our Visitors, Kenji and Keiko.
The children watched videos of what school is like in Japan, learnt how to read and write the numbers up to 7 in Japanese and had a Japanese Fairy Tale read to them.
They were also given a cube to complete in their own time, which has the numbers 1-7 in Japanese written on it.

Here are some photos of our session....
